◆ 趣意書： 『21 世紀の科学・技術を考える分科会』の設立について◆

 

● 設立を考えるに至ったバックグラウンド

 

（１） 現代の科学・技術の光と影を見つめ直す

現代の科学・技術は、宇宙の最果てから物質の究極までを対象に輝かしくすばらしい進展の歩みを続けています。

その反面、地球環境問題など従来の科学では捉え切れない地球規模の課題と問題－－（２）を参照－－が出てきていますので、前世紀までの様々な科学・技術の基本的な原点を改めて問い直し、これを確認するとともに、それらの志向性が内包する課題と問題－－（３）を参照－－を見つめ直す必要性も高まってきています。

そこで、われわれが直面している21 世紀の科学・技術の位置と方向をじっくりと哲学的に問い直すために、継続的な研鑽と探究の場を確保したいと考えています。

 

（２） 地球規模の難題

多様な姿をもつ自然の破壊や自律的な人間の精神の荒廃を伴う地球規模の難題が様々な時間・空間のスケールで生起しており、これへの対処が喫緊の課題です。

○地球環境問題○資源・エネルギーの枯渇○貧富の差の拡大○人口の爆発○難病の発生　○災害や事故の巨大化○民族・宗教・文化・政治・経済をめぐる対立と紛争の激化○凶悪な犯罪やいじめ・虐待行為の多発など

 

（３） eight deadly sins 〔A・ARNOLD : THE CORRUPTED SCIENCES〕

Much of modern science is tainted with eight deadly sins , each of which is related to the others .

The first is an exclusively mechanistic and materialistic orientation , largely inherited from conventional religions ;

the second consists of a preoccupation with operations （‘how' things work ）to the exclusion of causes and consequences （‘why' things work ）;

the third is excessive specialization unrelated to global concerns ;

the fourth consists of passing on ‘revealed knowledge ' by means of operant conditioning of one sort or another ;

the fifth is a catering to vested interests and fashions ;

the sixth is a dedication to acquiring credentials --to publish or perish ;

the seventh consists of the pretence that science is value-free ;

and the eight is that most of today's science , like Western religions and philosophies past and present , is not human-centered.

□共同議長は安平哲太郎・福永征夫。事務局は岩下幸功。

□第78 回アブダクション研究会で建議し、合意を受けて、活動を開始する。
